Interim GPhA National General SecretaryDr. Nana Akosua Boateng attained a B.S. in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology (cum laude) and Doctor of Pharmacy (magna cum laude) from Mercer University in Georgia. She completed her PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice Residency at Creighton University-Bergan Mercy Medical Center in Omaha, NE. Nana has practiced as a pharmacist for 12 years in both acute and long-term care settings at various medical institutions, ranging from small community hospitals to large teaching hospitals affiliated with large health care systems. She also took on a role as clinical pharmacy manager at HCA Houston Healthcare Southeast in Pasadena, TX, where she led a team of clinical pharmacists. She oversaw the pharmacy and therapeutics (P&T) committee, antimicrobial stewardship program and served as a preceptor for the University of Houston and Texas A&M pharmacy students. She is currently the Director of Pharmacy at one of the Baylor Scott and White Hospitals in Dallas, Texas. She is a board-certified pharmacotherapy specialist and has a teaching certificate from Creighton University and the SIDP antimicrobial stewardship certification. She holds membership in various honor societies, including Rho Chi (Pharmacy Honor Society), Omicron Delta Kappa (National Leadership Honor Society), et al. Nana is also a recipient of several prestigious awards and scholarships for her demonstrated excellence in service and leadership in the community. She is the author of several articles. Her article on Abaloparatide,“A New Anabolic Therapy for Postmenopausal Osteoporosis” was published in the Nebraska Pharmacists Association’s 2018 January/February Mortar and Pestle issue for continuing education credit. Nana loves reading self-improvement books, listening to music and engaging in political debates. She is excited about assuming this role as interim general secretary. She looks forward to working with the other leaders in the team to move the organization to the next level. |
