General Secretary GPhA MWIn 2020, Dr. Barbara Darko PharmD earned a doctorate degree in pharmacy from Chicago State College of Pharmacy. At the college of pharmacy, she won first place in the local patient counseling competition organized by the student chapter of the American Pharmacists Association (APhA). This gave her the opportunity to represent her college at the national patient counseling at the 2018 APhA annual conference in Memphis, TN. As a Historian for the African Students Pharmacists Association (AfSPA), she played an integral role in organizing the students of this association for the grand GhanaFest Health fair in Chicago in July 2018, July 2019, and July 2023, respectively. She currently serves as a founding member and the general secretary of the Ghana Pharmacist Association- Midwest. Dr. Barbara Darko started practicing in pharmacy as a pharmacy technician with CVS Pharmacy. After graduating from the college of pharmacy, she worked at Milwaukee Pharmacy as a community pharmacist and was also trained by Dr. Lester Carter jr. in herbal remedies. She then moved to Muncie, IN after being hired by CVS as an associate pharmacist. Currently, she works as a clinical pharmacist at Vista Medical Center in Waukegan, IL. Dr. Darko enjoys being a pharmacist because it gives her the opportunity to work with other clinicians to improve patients’ quality of life and make a positive impact on people’s lives. |
